Course Description

Would you like to make bright, fun and textured art batts and then spin those batts into amazing yarn? This class will provide all the tools and materials needed to build a blending board of your very own during class and instruction on how to use that board to make art batts from a variety of fibers and materials. Students will then creatively spin batts in a thick manner to create one-of-a-kind singles and plied yarn.

Naalbinding is an ancient technique for constructing hats, socks, and mittens, Minimal tools, a needle and short pieces of yarn. It is a weaving technique that uses your thumb for tension. Course Description

In this workshop students will be invited to go down the proverbial rabbit hole and learn about angora fiber and the rabbits that grow it. Students will be able to meet living representatives and learn about their care. They will also be able to evaluate examples of angora fiber and determine the best use for each grade of wool. Students will be able to observe or participate in a guided spinning exercise; spinning from the cloud and a selection of carded and combed wool.

Spinning wheel. Spend time before the class treading your wheel without spinning. Sit in a comfortable chair with knees level with hips, and using both heel and toe, practice treading so that your wheel is going clockwise in a steady and slow rhythm without stopping or reversing. Practice getting it consistent and as slow as you can. A great exercise while watching tv.

Course Description

So you have a spinning wheel..now what? You may have a brand new out-of-the-box wheel or an antique you found at an auction (note: not all antiques are complete working wheels, make sure yours is if you are bringing it to class). This class will teach you how to start your first yarn, how to treadle, draft and manage tension for take-up onto the bobbin. Each student will recive 4 oz of roving for the class.

Take your fiber artistry to the next level, learn to dye wool or silk at home for a custom color or one of a kind skein. This class will cover the basic safety and set up to dye fiber at home. Students will have the opportunity in class to dye 4 mini skeins either by basic immersion dying or one of the painted skein techniques.

Course Description

Create your own personalized trinket dish, great to store jewelry, keys, and other small items. Teacher and artist Susan will teach you how to work with polymer clay to create one-of-a-kind small dishes. A variety of styles can be made. You will create one dish, additional can be made at a nominal fee if time allows. Please note: clay dishes will bake for one hour. You will have time to shop and enjoy the festival. and then return to sand and finish your dish(es), Great opportunity for family and friends to create together. Children under 10 can participate if accompanied by an adult.

Course Description

Ditch the top down/bottom mentality and learn to turn your knitting on its head(or its side). Modular knitting allows for endless color and texture possibilities in small easy to work modules. While knitting a hot pad from the supplied kit, you will explore the basics of edge treatment and joining as you go used in all forms of modular knitting, also learn to weave in ends as you knit. Mitered squares, strip knitting, and U-turn rectangles make up the hot pad knit in class, other module forms like shells and triangles will be discussed as well as the various ways to play with all the modules.

Course Description

Long draw spinning is a classic technique useful for every spinner. True woolen yarn can be quickly spun and is ideal for wonderful warm weather clothing. Hone your skills with this light-hearted and fun class, starting with carding washed fleece and then long drawing your prepared rotags. Student should have a good working relationship with their wheel and be capable of spinning a consistent single.

Utilizing dye transfer from silk and sari silks to design your own piece on either a wool fat quarter (supplied) or a silk scarf (supplied). This is an endlessly creative process with little risk from either acid dyes or mess making spills. Students are welcome to bring their own ties (labeled 100% silk) or use what's available in class.

Course Description

Learn the basic techniques of texturing and marbling of polymer clay and turn that into a scarf pin, hair pin, or barrette. Using polymer clay in the color of your choice. Susan will help you create a unique pin to secure your favorite shawl or use as a hair pin. After creating your pin, it will be baked for an hour in the oven. You can take a break and enjoy the festival while your creation bakes. Once cooled, you will sand and finish your piece. Each person should be able to create two pins within the allotted time. Children under 10 years of age can participate if accompanied by an adult.

Course Description

These two colors march across your knitting adding a pop of color and texture with a simple 3 row technique.. They make a delightful addition to your stranded knitting or a simple way to add color without complicated color work.
In this class a kit will be provided to work 2 samples; one knitted flat, the other in the round which can be finished into a bracelet and a cup cozy or wrist warmer. Along the way we will explore how to march the braids to the left or the right,, how to hide the joins when knitting in the round, and how color and weight of yarn affects the fiished braid.
